White Egret stands over one metre tall and is the tallest heron in the Old
World. It also has the largest range of any heron species, almost wherever
wetlands are present, and whilst no population is endangered it is vulnerable
to the loss of habitat due to drainage.
It is a magnificent bird, its long white plumes once collected to such an
extent that the bird was in danger of extinction.
This picture was taken in the wetlands of Sydney's Bicentennial Park.
