NZF1 - new Zealand Fur Seal
New Zealand Fur Seal, Arctocephalus fosteri.

The fate of the New Zealand fur seal has been much the same as other seal species in the area. Hunted to near extinction when Europeans arrived, it has now recovered to have a healthy and increasing population.

They love to soak up the warming rays late in the afternoon, with this arched back pose typical of the big male bulls.

This large male was photographed at Admirals Arch on Kangaroo Island.
